Memory Box open call
My "Memory Box" contains some of these photos and the very camera that was gifted to him as a redundancy present back in 1984 (the then), my Nikon D5100 with zoom lens, plus a book I produced from when the Homeless World Cup was hosted in Cardiff "Dragons Warriors Dreigiau Rhyfelwyr", (the now).
Reflecting on it now, I can see how I was influenced into photography by the memories of my dad behind the camera and the picture he left behind.
Using his camera in some of my work has helped me feel closer to him, especially since his passing 3 years ago and his long battle with Parkinson's. It helps me focus on the man he was, and not the empty shell he became!
Also included with "the now" are some of the negatives of the film I used on a trip to the area of North London where my dad grew up. The images were taken just after his funeral. Being there then helped in some small way with dealing with the loss.
Looking back through photographs my dad took of the family with his Olympus Trip 35 really takes me back to my childhood and the days when anything seemed possible.
